Interviews

Members of the Dementia-Friendly Airport Working Group are interviewing survey participants who volunteered to be contacted for follow-up by telephone and video call. These interviews help us better understand detailed experiences and intimate perspectives of persons living with dementia and their travel partners. Many participants tell us personal stories that, with permission, we share publicly to help communicate aids and barriers to safe, comfortable, and meaningful air travel for people with dementia.

The interview questions include:
  • What does being able to travel mean to you/your travel companion?
  • What was the last trip that you both took? How did it go?
  • What services at the airport were most helpful to you? What services would have been useful and helpful to assist you?
  • Let's talk more about the value placed on travel. Why did you fly? Was this trip important?
  • Did you consider the trip a "break" or "vacation", or was it a hard thing you had to do?
  • Was it a difficult decision to fly? Why or why not?
  • Will you fly again? Why or why not?
